The Book of Acts comes alive in this three-tape epic covering the years 30-69 A.D.
Jerusalem, A.D. 30. Roman soldiers dismantle the cross. Later, Christ appears on the road to Emmaus. Saul persecutes the Church and Stephen supports it. Rejoice with Christ's disciples at Pentecost, cry with them at the stoning of Stephen. See the Church grow as Paul is dramatically converted, Peter performs wonders and Philip baptizes the Ethiopian. Finally, witness the great triumph of the Church despite persecution by Roman rulers and the martyrdom of Peter and Paul.
This series comes with a Study Guide outlining a 12-week course of study - perfect for any Sunday school class or study group wishing to study the Early Church or the Book of Acts. Performances from an all-star cast, together with the scope of the project, also make this great Bible-based family entertainment. (Adapted from the Procter & Gamble Productions, Inc. mini-series.)

Richard Buton and Peter O'Toole star in this sweeping historic drama that relates the story of an unlikely pair - Henry II, the Norman King of England and Thomas Becket, the Saxon peasant whom Henry has elevated to the position of Chancellor of England. The loving friendship between the two seems to know no bounds, with Becket serving his King faithfully as confidant, advisor and companion troublemaker. But when Henry appoints his friend Archbishop of Canterbury, head of the Church of England, the account takes an ironic turn.
A political move designed to indirectly render the Church under the King's control, Becket's new station affects him in such a way that he finds himself moved toward an uncompromising devotion to God, a rival with whom Henry cannot compete. Henry's obsession with the changed Becket leads to a tense and emotionally-charged battle of wills between the two, resulting in ultimate tragedy.
Filmed on location in England, Becket is a dramatic masterpiece, critically praised for its stunning cinematography and riveting performances.

BEN HUR (A Story of the Christ)
Most expensive film in history at the time of release, 7 years in the making and the winner of more international honors and praise than any other movie in history.
The film's subtitle is “ A story of the Christ ”. It chronicles the life of Judah-Ben Hur and his rise to fame and power as a Jew in the midst of the persecution of Rome. Paralleling is the story of Jesus strating God's kingdom on the earth. Tremendous drama is played out in the struggle of Rome's power verses God's love in Ben Hur's life.
Also included in this video is a one hour documentary on the making of the film by Christopher Plummer.
Actors: Charlton Heston, Jack Hawkins, Stephen Boyd, Hugh Griffith, Haya Harareet, Martha Scott, Cathy Donnell and Sam Jaffe.

John Huston's The Bible...In The Beginning is wonderful movie that captures on film the emotion and drama of the first books of the Bible. From the beautiful images of Adam and Eve in Eden - including the strange shape/figure of the temptor in the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil - up to Abraham's life everything here rings true. Yes, he doesn't follow the Bible to the letter, but that is a minor criticism since it was the director's intention to tell the story in a realistic and believable manner.
John Huston's role as Noah is fantastic, being one of the highlights of the film but pay attention to the people playing his sons and daughter in laws and appreciate how well they were. (VHS)

Includes: Abraham, David, Jacob, Joseph, Moses. Samson And Delilah. See individual descriptions in this section. (DVD Region 1)    (VHS)

Days of Triumph is a feature-length drama set in the time when Western Civilization was under the yoke of Imperial Rome.
In the land of Israel, those who still harbored the dream of freedom from the Romans were known as Zealots.
Lee J. Cobb stars as Zadok, the Zealot leader. As seen through his eyes, and those of the Apostle Andrew and others, the story of the life of Christ is dramatically portrayed.

The Bible Collection, one of the most popular home video series ever among Christians, now presents the captivating story of King David!
You'll witness the exhilarating highs, the heartbreaking lows, and the abiding faith of a man tested by God in this passionate presentation starring Leonard Nimoy and Nathaniel Parker (as David).
(DVD Region 1)    (VHS)

Though this film has only a few scraps to offer in the way of scriptural accuracy, it is a visual delight, and one of the very best examples of the lush Technicolor of the mid 20th century, with its deep cobalt blues and incredibly rich reds. The cinematography by Leon Shamroy, along with the massive sets and luxurious costumes (all three were Oscar nominated but lost out to "An American in Paris") make this a fabulous "sword and sandals" epic; it also boasts a dramatic score by Alfred Newman, and one of my favorite dance sequences on film, by the brilliant Jack Cole. One had to be very strong and athletic to do his choreography, and the dancer in this number is the great Gwen Verdon.

Gregory Peck is as King David, and it's always a pleasure to listen to his resonant voice; his recitation of the 23rd psalm, and his prayer at the Ark of the Covenant, are memorable scenes. In this film David is a pale reflection of the Bible character, this story being more about a big Hollywood romance, and the trouble it gets him in along with his partner in sin Bathsheba, played by Susan Hayward

An action-packed sequel to The Robe! Set in Rome, soon after the death of Christ, the depraved and mad Caligula is on the throne, obsessed with two things: the Robe--the garment that fell from Jesus' shoulders on the cross--and brutal gladiatorial displays.
Victor Mature is the devout Christian entrusted with the Robe by Peter (Michael Rennie). But he turns his back on God, enters the arena, and becomes the most famous gladiator in Rome. Sharing the bed of the powerful and diabolical Messalina (Susan Hayward), he may even betray the Robe--and any hope he has for redemption!
Filled with vivid and brutal recreations of gladiatorial combat, and propelled by Mature's unique presence, the maniacal performance of Jay Robinson as Caligula, and a strong supporting turn by Ernest Borgnine, this 1954 biblical blockbuster is an action-packed classic.

  ESTHER (1998)
Following the conquest of Babylon, the King of Persia gives a banquet for his people at which he requests the presence of his wife, Vashti. As she refuses the King's demand, Ahasuerus disowns Vashti and goes in search of her replacement. In his harem, he meets the young girl Esther who immediately captivates him with her charm and beauty. Unaware of her Jewish heritage, King Ahasuerus falls in love with Esther. Esther then reveals to Ahasuerus that she is Jewish and asks him to show her people mercy, because of a planned genocide of the Jews by the King's right-hand man, Haman. In doing so, she saves the lives of many innocent people and paves the way for their return to Jerusalem.

Based on Henry Van Dyke's classic, "The Story of the Other Wise Man", a fictional story set in Biblical times, told in gently comic terms. It concerns a Magi named Artaban (Martin Sheen) who studies the prophecies and witnesses a sign in the heavens that he hopes will lead him and his faithful servant, Orantes (Alan Arkin), to the Messiah. Artaban takes with him three precious gifts to present to the Messiah.
For 33 years, Artaban and Orantes pursue Jesus, only to miss Him at every turn. Along the way, Artaban uses his gifts to help people in dire need. He now has nothing to present to the Messiah when he finds Him. The story culminates on Easter Sunday as Artaban, old and dying, finally encounters the new King, bringing peace to his final moments of life.

The story of creation all the way through to the covenant made between God and man, symbolized by the beautiful rainbow.
The story begins with the creation of Man and Woman, the sin committed by Adam and Eve, and the temptation by the snake, which led to their banishment from Paradise. The story continues with the first crime committed by mankind, Cain's murder of his brother, the condemnation of God, mankind's corruption and evil, and God's regret for having created earth.
The choice of Noah, a just and upright man, to build the Ark, the flood and its clearing the way for a new mankind, and the pact of the eternal Covenant between God and all living things are told through the clear and simple words of an old nomad shepherd.

A momentous undertaking involving a creative constituency of award-winning artists and esteemed academic and theological consultants from around the world, Visual Bible's THE GOSPEL OF JOHN is an ambitious motion picture that has been adapted for the screen on a word for word basis from the American Bible Society's Good News Bible.
The story of Jesus' life as recounted by His disciple John, this three-hour epic feature film draws its audience into antiquity by way of meticulous recreation, including an original musical score complete with instrumental sounds of the time. This ambitious motion picture follows the Gospel precisely, neither adding to the story from other Gospels, nor omitting complex passages.
Narrated by renowned Canadian actor Christopher Plummer with a distinguished cast from Canada and the United Kingdom it features British actor Henry Ian Cusick in the seminal role of Jesus Christ.
John is the best-loved but least understood of the gospels, presenting a uniquely human portrait of Jesus. Intimate and reflective, THE GOSPEL OF JOHN provides audiences with an unparalleled opportunity to understand the tumultuous period in history at the time of Jesus Christ.

When this film was released in 1985, the critics were not kind, but I love this film, and think it's a good telling of the story of David, based on I and II Samuel, I Chronicles, and the Psalms. Though much of it has been compressed (David's relationship with Bathsheba is limited mostly to the consequences of it for instance) and some creative license used for plot continuity, it has a tremendous amount of Biblical accuracy.<

Jeremiah tells the story of the prophet who abandons his family and the woman he loves, in order to relay God's message in Jerusalem. Although he is persecuted and branded as a traitor for warning others of the destruction of the Holy City, he continues fearlessly with his mission. When his prophecy is fulfilled, he experiences first-hand Jerusalem's destruction by the Babylonians.
The eighth in a series of movies made-for-TV, this drama stars Patrick Dempsey as Jeremiah, a prophet who heard the call to preach against the moral and ethical corruption he saw occurring all around him in ancient Jerusalem.
While Jerusalem in time fell to Babylon, Jeremiah continued to spread the word of God in Egypt. Jeremiah also features Klaus Maria Brandauer as King Nebuchadnezzar, Oliver Reed as General Safan, and Leonor Varela as Judith.

  JESUS - 2000 Mini-Series
Tackling the story of Jesus for film is bound to incur controversy. Yet, in a bold move, CBS produced the television miniseries Jesus, which not only retells the biblical story, but takes a look at the more human side of the man. Jeremy Sisto stars, and although it takes a little while for him to gather enough momentum to have us believing him in this role, overall he is surprisingly convincing.
While the movie does stray from strict scripture--Jesus is shown feeling conflicted over his feelings for Lazarus's sister Mary; Satan, portrayed by Jeroen Krabbé, works hard at convincing Jesus to stray from his path--most of the plot will be familiar to viewers.
Beginning with an adult Jesus, who works with his father as a carpenter, the program traces his life and death through resurrection. The strong supporting cast, including Jacqueline Bisset as Mary, Gary Oldman as Pontius Pilate, and Debra Messing as Mary Magdalene, lends to the credibility of the miniseries. This is a satisfying retelling of the life of Jesus and will please those who want new ways to explore biblical stories, as Jesus not only reinforces the ideals of the New Testament but shows Jesus as a complex individual.

Noted actress Maureen O'Sullivan portrays Mary Magdalene traveling from Jerusalem to her birthplace in Galilee in A.D. 64.
This lonely survivor is one of the few left who saw Jesus arrested and crucified. The passage of time has left her haunted by memories of death. Her spiritual strength and faith have eroded and are overshadowed by despair.
This fascinating woman is touched and transformed by the discoveries of her journey. The people she meets and present realities dredge up past memories.
Her despair is challenged by the spirited faith of a new generation of believers who celebrate the Lord's living presence. Others who question or deny the validity of the faith force her to relive the events she experienced as a younger woman. She is strengthened and reassured as she joins her life to others. Her past, present and future come together as she relives the powerful moment of Jesus' resurrection. She who was among the first to see the risen Lord finds a surge of new life and a renewal of faith. What began as a journey of despair ends with her return to serve the living God.

The early first century followers of Jesus were a small, struggling group within Judaism who seemingly posed no threat to anyone, certainly not the mighty Roman empire . But there was one determined to see this fledging faith exterminated. His name was Saul and he became the greatest persecutor of the early church.
Amazingly within a matter of a few years, the Christians fiercest opponent became it most effective advocate. Struck down by a powerful conversion experience on the road to Damascus, Saul--his name changed to Paul--went on to become the greatest missionary in the history of Christianity.
Paul went on to write more of the New Testament books than any other. In this impressive drama starring Garry Cooper we follow Saul the angry zealot converted to Paul the servant of Christ who will pay any price to bring his message to the world.

This unique word-for-word presentation in the NIV brings to the screen a divine yet warmly human Jesus.

Biographical look at the life of Jesus.
He was born into a poor family and spent most of His life at hard labor. He never held a political position and spoke publicly for only three years before he was murdered at the young age of thirty-three.
He never traveled more than ninety miles from His hometown, yet He changed the whole world. In fact, He changed history.
A fascinating, accurate, and deeply moving video. See what happened 2000 years ago and find out why it is important for YOU today.
